Hà Nội to cooperate with Hungary to purify lakes

HÀ NỘI – Hungary will share its experience with Hà Nội to help remove oil and grease from water and purify the city’s lakes, Kovacs Karoly, president of Hungarian Water Association, said.

According to Hungarian experts, Hà Nội should use oil and grease removing devices made of plastic and steel. These devices are small and easy to be installed.

Karoly, who is former president of European Water Association, said that in Hungary, as well as in several European countries, waste water from production bases, restaurants, hotels, petrol stations, processing areas and residential areas is treated with these devices. Although the installation fee is high, they bring about enormous environmental benefits.

A representative of Hà Nội Construction Department said that removing oil and grease from water is extremely necessary. The application of the device will be considered carefully to ensure conformity with Hà Nội’s climate and environmental conditions, he added.

Ứng Quốc Dũng, editor-in-chief of Việt Nam Water Supply and Sewerage Magazine, said that Hà Nội had applied Redoxy- 三C to purify its lakes’ water, but it was only a temporary solution.

For long term solutions, he supported the idea of removing oil, grease and impurities out of water.

According to Hà Nội Sewage and Drainage Company, the city’s lakes are contaminated with animal fats. Tô Lịch, Kim Ngưu, Lừ, Sét rivers and  一 三 other lakes in the city are polluted with grease, that is 0. 五mg to  二. 五mg of grease per litre, higher than the national standard.
